Forecasting 2026 Micro Wedding Trends for Chicago
We know how important it is for micro wedding couples to stay true to their vision but it can be fun to take a look at the upcoming Chicago wedding trends! Here’s a short list of what we’ve seen in the first half of 2026 as a micro wedding coordinator and what we think is here to stay!
Live entertainment will become even more popular for Chicago micro weddings
From hiring a watercolor artist to paint your wedding venue to acoustic guitar players and jazz ensembles, we’re seeing a major uptick in live performances and interactive experiences at weddings in Chicago.
Even for smaller weddings, it’s important to think about the guest experience. It’s unlikely it makes sense to hire a 10-piece wedding band, but that doesn’t mean you have to forego all entertainment, especially if you’re not going to be having a dance floor with a DJ.
For those celebrating with an intimate, candlelit dinner, we might recommend a string quartet or a jazz vocalist and bass duo. For those wanting something a little more high-energy, we might recommend a 360 photobooth!

See ya seated dinners, couples are replacing these with cocktail receptions
We’re seeing a big shift in how couples are choosing to celebrate after their wedding ceremony! Instead of a long, seated dinner, some couples are opting for a cocktail-style reception with a mix of lounge furniture and traditional tablescapes to encourage their guests to get up and engage with everyone.
This may sound like a more casual affair, but we’re actually seeing lots of couples who have a black-tie style move forward with this kind of vision. Think of it like a fancy New Year’s Eve bash or a fundraiser gala! Instead of a sit-down meal, guests can meander from food station to food station while hors d’oeuvres are passed and the open bar is flowing!
Couples are also choosing a cocktail-style reception in order to save space. If you don’t need to bring in tables and chairs to seat all of your guests, you have more room for a larger guest list!
A great example of this is Big Delicious Planet. Their lush, vibrant garden provides a breathtaking backdrop that’s perfect for guests to meander and enjoy themselves without feeling glued to their seats all night!

The amount of wedding favors we see thrown away or left on tables at the end of the night is more than we wish to count! So we recommend that our couples share a late night snack that their guests can either enjoy on the dance floor or grab on their way home!
Whether that’s something sweet like a mini box of Garrett’s caramel corn or something savory, like the couple’s favorite late night fast food (a Chicago dog, mini Italian beef sandwiches etc), giving your guests something to munch on after an evening of imbibing is the right move!

micro weddings make more time for private vows
We’re finding that our Chicago couples are opting in for private vows ahead of the ceremony, typically right after their First Look, in order for them to share some extra special time together.
You can do this privately (maybe with your photographer to snap a few photos) or with your officiant if you’re looking for something a little more traditional. You could even invite your immediate family or a few close chosen friends to act as witnesses. Either way, this gives you a chance to make your day even more “you.”"
