Forecasting 2025 Micro Wedding Trends for Washington DC and Baltimore
While we always want our couples to choose the wedding aspects that are right for them, it’s fun to anticipate some of the micro wedding trends for our Washington DC and Baltimore Maryland couples! We’re sharing what we’ve seen in the last few months as micro wedding coordinators as well as what we think we’ll see in the year to come!
Micro Wedding Trends for 2025
LIVE MUSIC Will Become Even More Popular For Micro Weddings
While you may not need to hire a 10 piece wedding band for a guest list of 50 or fewer, we’re seeing more and more micro wedding couples opt for live music for their event. When having a small wedding, it’s important to think about the guest experience.
If you’re opting out of a dance floor, then some sort of entertainment is a nice way to nurture the guest experience. If you’re getting married in a garden or a more traditional venue, we might suggest a string quartet. If you’re opting for something a bit more casual, like a brewery or backyard wedding, we might recommend an acoustic guitar player.
And if you’re going with something more sleek and modern, maybe a jazz band. Our favorite company to use for all of our couple’s live music and entertainment is Lucy Black. Not only are their musicians incredibly talented but they’re extremely professional from start to the finish.

HIRING A WEDDING PLANNER IS a MUST FOR TINY WEDDINGS
Micro weddings have fewer guests than a large-scale wedding, but that doesn’t always mean fewer logistics, especially in cities like Washington DC and Baltimore.
We’re finding that our couples who are celebrating with just a ceremony and photos often times add on either our partial or full service planning option. This allows couples to hand over some of the more stressful and tedious parts of planning a micro wedding sothey can truly enjoy their engagement season with family and friends.
COCKTAIL RECEPTIONS ARE REPLACING FULLY SEATED MEALS FOR SMALL, INTIMATE WEDDINGS
A lot of our couples are opting for cocktail style receptions rather than a fully seated meal. They want their guests to be able to move around the space, interacting more casually rather than having to sit across from one another at a formal table.
This doesn’t mean the actual wedding needs to be casual. We see this set up in some of our more formal settings. Think of it like a fancy cocktail party or luxury fundraiser. Instead of a three-course sit-down meal, you can have passed hors d'oeuvres (think mini lobster rolls), food stations (seafood tower, anyone?,) and an open bar to keep the party going!
Another reason couples are choosing cocktail receptions is for space saving purposes! Venue capacities are bigger when you don’t need to bring in tables and chairs for every guest. This doesn’t mean you won’t have places for people to sit and chat: you can bring in lounge furniture, use what the space already has, or bring in several high top tables and linens.
A great example of this is Patterson Mansion. They have beautiful lounge furniture already in the space - perfect for a cocktail reception!
LATE NIGHT TAKEAWAY BOXES ARE BECOMING A MAJOR HIT FOR MICRO WEDDING GUESTS
Instead of spending money on wedding favors that most guests throw in the trash anyway (sorry, but it’s true!) we’re finding that a lot of our couples are opting for a tasty treat, instead!
Whether that’s something sweet like a donut or the couple’s favorite candy or something savory, like the couple’s favorite late night fast food (tacos, double cheeseburgers, etc), something your guests can munch on after an evening of imbibing is a great way to end the evening!
Plus, knowing you are giving guests something they will enjoy will be money well spent!

PRIVATE VOWS ARE HERE TO STAY - TINY WEDDINGS MAKE THEM EASIER
Instead of saying their I Dos in front of all their guests, we’re finding that couples are opting for something a little more private here in the DC and Baltimore area.
We’ve seen couples share their vows just the two of them - with or without their officiant - or in front of a small group of hand-selected family and friends. This is the beauty of small, intimate weddings — you can make them as private as you want — remember it is YOUR day.
After the vow exchange, the couple either stands for a more traditional ceremony without the personal vows or just joins their guests at a cocktail hour followed by their dinner or reception. Either way, we think this is a lovely way to spend some one-on-one time with your spouse!
Working in the micro wedding industry here in Washington DC and Baltimore means we get a sense of which trends are passing through and which are here to stay! But remember, planning a micro wedding means staying true to who you are and your own personal style, so if a trend doesn’t fit the vision, feel free to skip it and spend the time and money on something that does!
