There are wedding days that unfold exactly according to plan, and there are wedding days that prove a thoughtful Plan B can be every bit as beautiful. A+Ws micro wedding celebration at The LINE Hotel in Washington, DC, was the latter.
The couple chose to host the entire day on site, allowing their guests to move seamlessly from the ceremony and cocktail hour to an intimate candlelit dinner and reception. Their vision was classically modern: clean silhouettes, cream and champagne tones, fresh greenery, and soft touches of apricot and peach. Every element felt timeless, but never overly traditional.
A MOdern, romantic beginning - their micro wedding ceremony
Our bride spent the morning getting ready in one of The LINE’s light-filled rooms overlooking the city. Her wedding details were arranged against the windows: a sleek ivory gown, a softly draped neck scarf, understated heels, a pearl-covered handbag, and a garden-inspired bouquet filled with cream, champagne, peach, and pale apricot blooms.
The relaxed energy of the morning came through in every photograph. A and her closest friends shared drinks in pink striped pajamas before she changed into her gown - a beautifully minimal silhouette that felt completely aligned with the modern simplicity of the day.
Our groom brought a classic black-tie element to the celebration in a black tuxedo and bow tie, finished with a boutonniere of cream and apricot flowers. Together, their looks struck the perfect balance between formal and effortless.
A QUICK AND SEAMLESS PLAN B
This DC couple had originally planned to hold their ceremony and cocktail hour outside on The LINE’s roof deck. But as the wedding day arrived, so did the rain.
Our day-of coordinator worked quickly and efficiently to move forward with Plan B, transitioning the celebration indoors to the Monument Suite. The change was handled calmly and decisively, allowing the couple to remain present while the details were adjusted behind the scenes.
Inside the suite, soft daylight filtered through sheer curtains as the couple exchanged vows surrounded by their closest people. The room’s clean lines, warm wood floors, and expansive windows created a setting that felt intimate, airy, and entirely intentional. What could have felt like a compromise instead became one of the most personal parts of the day.
The rain also gave the couple’s portraits an unexpectedly romantic quality. During a break in the weather, the couple stepped onto the roof for photographs against a misty Washington, DC, skyline. The overcast sky and rain-darkened terrace made the city feel cinematic, while Annie’s flowing scarf brought movement to the quiet, windswept setting.
DINNER BY CANDLELIGHT IN LYRA AND LYNX
Following cocktail hour in the Monument Suite, guests gathered in Lyra and Lynx for dinner and the reception.
The darker, moodier interiors provided a beautiful contrast to the couple’s light and romantic palette. Long tables were dressed in cream linens and surrounded by warm wood chairs. Loose, garden-style arrangements brought together creamy roses, pale peach blooms, touches of apricot, and trailing greenery.
Candlelight was central to the design. Tall taper candles glowed inside glass hurricanes, while smaller votives flickered between the flowers and place settings. Against the room’s black-paneled walls, the abundance of candles created a warm, intimate atmosphere and made the entire space feel softly illuminated.
Printed menus and place cards carried the apricot and peach tones into the smallest details, while neutral napkins and polished silver flatware kept each setting refined. The overall effect felt abundant without being overly formal - romantic, modern, and welcoming all at once.
A PORTRAIT FOR EVERY GUEST - HIGHLIGHTING THE MICRO WEDDING GUEST EXPERIENCE
One of the most memorable details of the evening was the live illustrator, who painted portraits of every guest during the celebration.
The finished illustrations were displayed on individually mounted cards, each one capturing the personalities and formal attire of the people gathered to celebrate our bride and groom. The experience served as both entertainment and a deeply personal keepsake, giving every guest a piece of the wedding created just for them.
It was a thoughtful addition to the evening and a perfect reflection of the couple’s approach to the day: elevated and design-conscious, but always centered on the people they love.
STRAWBERRIES, CREAM AND A FLORAL FINISH
For dessert, the couple chose a strawberries-and-cream wedding cake. The cake’s smooth, understated exterior was decorated with a loose cascade of cream, blush, and apricot flowers, echoing the arrangements throughout the reception.
Surrounded by small floral vessels and glowing taper candles, it became another beautiful layer in the room rather than a separate design moment. Like the rest of the celebration, it felt elegant, romantic, and unfussy.
From the quiet ceremony in the Monument Suite to the candlelit tables in Lyra and Lynx, Annie and Will’s wedding remained cohesive and deeply personal - even when the weather changed the original plan.
